  1. Depending on how much space you have, choosing the right bed for your child can be a really enjoyable activity for both of you. Kids don’t enjoy going to bed when they are very young, so making their bedroom and bed into a place they like being and are happy to head off to is over half the battle. You will want to choose a bed that is a bit different so they feel they have something unique to enjoy, as well as giving them a fun experience that they will look forward to at the end of every long day.

The reason you need to think about space is that if they are sharing a room or only have a small bedroom, some beds will be more suitable than others. It is all well and good picking out a giant princess bed and other themed kids furniture, but if it doesn’t fit into the room or makes the room too cramped then they still won’t have an enjoyable space to retreat to each evening. Size up your child’s room and work out what they need to keep and what is expendable. You can find great kids furniture which doubles up as storage and something else so that you can save some space. For example, if they have a TV or need a desk, a check of drawers can double up as both, or you can choose a table with a cover that will hide storage boxes underneath.

Once you know what kind of space you are working with you have a few fun options. You could choose a themed bed, such as a castle, pirate ship or racecar, all of which will prove very popular with children as it allows them to play as well as have somewhere cool to sleep. Choose a bed that will grow with your child so that you are not spending too much money on something they won’t fit into in a year, and think about something that will be timeless so their room can change around it.

If you want something a little more grown up, a cabin or high sleeper bed is an exciting option that kids will adore. The idea of sleeping higher up than everyone else appeals to children because it is a novelty and gives them a secret place of their own, but it also works for you as a parent as it saves plenty of space, with a huge amount of storage underneath. Some high sleepers even have desks and sofas built in underneath, so you can save money and have everything you need built into the one piece of furniture. Always consult your child on what they would like and have them come up with a shortlist of favourite beds, that you can then choose between based on size and price.
